About Your Guide

        Tuesday tours meet at 8:45 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday tours at 9:45 a.m. at Kepaniwai Park Heritage Gardens in ‘Īao Valley. We'll enjoy a sweet morning snack and “talk story” about Maui’s ethnic history and its culinary diversity.

“Breakfast at The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono”
        Lahaina-born and raised innkeeper Janice Fairbanks prepares a family recipe and talks about her Japanese/Filipino heritage and foods of her childhood.

Wednesdays and Thursdays  – “Lunch Like a Local, Maui-Style”
        Unique to the Islands, there’s nothing as comforting as a plate lunch – always comprised of a protein like chicken or fish, two scoops rice, and two scoops macaroni salad. We’ll choose from several of Central Maui’s best plate lunch places and together decide whether to eat in or have a picnic.

f a sit-down lunch is more your style, we’ll choose together from local Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, depending on what everyone’s ‘ono (hungry) for that day. We’ll enjoy our meal in the midst of regular Central Maui folks at any one of a number of great little off-the-beaten-path restaurants.

Upcountry Maui
(customized tours for from 1 to 3 guests available Monday through Thursday)
        Cool, verdant, beautiful Upcountry Maui. This is where much of the Island’s best produce is cultivated. We can explore the hidden culinary treasures in the residential community of Pukalani, the paniolo (cowboy) town of Makawao, the rural district of Kula. The drive itself is delicious!

Tour stops may include a bakery, supermarket, ethnic food market, ice cream manufacturer, and/or snack shops. Tour da Food tours always end with an Island tradition, shave ice!

        Every tour includes: transportation from and back to the central meeting place; one main meal; snacks; a goodie bag; and a list of additional off-the-radar eating places. All prices include Hawai‘i State General Excise Tax of 4.167%.
